During your pregnancy, you want nothing but the best for your baby, and finding the right pregnancy and pediatrics chiropractor may be high on your list. You deserve a chiropractor that has experience with pregnancy massage and other all-natural chiropractic techniques to ensure you are healthy and pain-free throughout your pregnancy. Before you commit to a pregnancy chiropractor in the Atlanta (locations in Alpharetta, Buckhead, Decatur, Sandy Springs, & Woodstock) and Charleston, SC area, consider these four areas:

1. Assess your pain areas. Knowing where you are experiencing pain and discomfort can help you identify the best pregnancy chiropractor to meet your needs. You can also ask specific questions and get targeted information about how they can leverage safe chiropractic treatments to address your trouble areas. For example, if you are having lumbar pain, as a result of your pregnancy, seeking out an experienced pregnancy chiropractor who specializes in treating pregnancy back pain can be the best solution

2. Ask about their experience. How long has the practice been open? How many pregnant patients do they treat? What techniques have they found to be successful for pregnant women experiencing back pain? These are all questions you should ask to determine if the pregnancy chiropractor is the right fit for your needs. An experienced chiropractic treatment clinic will be able to provide ample information in this regard and will be happy to address all of your questions and concerns during the initial visit.

3. Check references. Always ask for testimonials or to speak with former patients. If you are at all leary about the reputation of a pregnancy and pediatric chiropractor, then it is always best to do your own due diligence before accepting any treatments. Checking for online reviews and Better Business Bureau (BBB) ratings are also great places to verify the practices’ credibility and ability to provide quality care.

4. Ask for an initial consultation. Most trusted pediatric and pregnancy chiropractors will offer a free back evaluation to discuss your areas of pain and to explain how their services work. This is a great time to ask questions about their experience and inquire about what specific chiropractic treatments they use to help pregnant women manage back pain throughout their pregnancy. If they require you to commit to services before you are able to discuss your needs, this is a major red flag.

If you are looking for an award-winning and friendly pregnancy chiropractor with a proven track record helping pregnant women eliminate back pain, then contact the experienced doctors at Corrective Chiropractic today at 404-355-5499 for a free, no-strings-attached consultation.

Being pregnant can take a toll on the body, in more ways than one. Apart from gaining weight, the joints and muscles are often stretched and stressed to their max, as a woman enters the later stages of pregnancy. Seeking out an experienced prenatal chiropractor can be an all-natural and safe way to manage the aches and pains of pregnancy, throughout all trimesters. According to the most reputable pediatric and pregnancy clinic centers, here are the top three reasons why pregnancy massage should be part of your pregnancy health regime.

1. Pregnancy Back Pain Is Almost Inevitable. As the baby grows and your stomach protrudes, it is common for many women to experience lower back pain. When you throw in lack of sleep and stress, the level of pain and discomfort felt can intensify very quickly. Your posture will shift, throughout the pregnancy, making changing positions or walking difficult. Taking a proactive approach and receiving pregnancy massages to make sure your joints and back are healthy and aligned can be a great way to ensure your pregnancy is as smooth and pain-free as possible.

2. Pregnancy Back Pain Cannot Is Hard to Treat with Medication. Doctors will advise against taking pain medication during pregnancy and often suggest using heat pads or placing pillows under the lower back when in a seated or lying position. Though these options are somewhat successful in reducing back pain, they are not as nearly as effective as pregnancy massage. Visiting one of the best pregnancy and pediatrics chiropractors in the greater Atlanta and Charleston, SC region, even once a trimester can help you curb any back pain you may be experiencing, without putting your baby at risk.

3. Pregnancy Back Pain Does Negatively Affect Your Baby. Whatever you experience is transmitted to your growing baby. When your spine is misaligned, this impacts your nervous system and can cause your body to produce stress hormones that will cross the placenta and be absorbed by your baby. And, with high levels of the stress hormone, cortisol being found to negatively influence infant birth weights, finding natural and preventive ways to decrease their production in your body is vital. Recent studies have shown a link between chiropractic treatments and a reduction in the level of cortisol in the body, thereby providing further evidence that visiting a pregnancy chiropractor is an essential part of your prenatal health routine.

When you think of chiropractic treatments and the benefits they provide, many patients will outline the back and spinal advantages of chiropractic therapy. However, this is just one of many health benefits chiropractic medicine can offer, even for those not suffering with debilitating back pain. Here are the top three little-known chiropractic treatment benefits:

1. Long-term headache relief. Atlanta and Charleston, SC Chiropractic Centers see as many patients with chronic headaches and migraines as they do those with back pain. With regular chiropractic treatment and spinal alignments, long-term headache relief can easily be achieved. In fact, recent research found that when patients visited a chiropractic center at least once every three months, they experienced a 90% drop in the number and intensity of their headaches.
2. Natural blood pressure control. Hypertension is one of the leading chronic illnesses in the country. With one in every three adults having the disease, finding non-medication ways to control and reverse the symptoms can be life-changing. In a recent University of Chicago study, researchers found that even after a one-time chiropractic adjustment, participants saw a significant decrease in their blood pressure equivalent to taking two blood-pressure drugs at once.

3. Improved metabolism and digestive functioning. When your spine is misaligned, even slightly, your nervous system will be most impacted. As the central control system of your entire body, when your nervous system is not functioning properly, all other areas of your body including your digestive system will be adversely affected and can lead to other health issues. In addition, digestion can be reduced if you have poor posture and chiropractic medicine can be an all-natural, non-invasive way to improve your posture, get your spine back into proper alignment, and get your digestive system performing at its best.

BONUS: Kickstarts your immune system

Whether you’re the type of person who gets sick often or stays sick longer than normal, chiropractic treatments and chiropractic medicine as a whole can be your silver bullet to staying healthy all year round. Since chiropractic adjustments focus on getting your skeletal system back in line, thereby enhancing your nervous system functioning, it is believed that this also helps increase your blood flow to all areas of your body and gives your immune system that added boost to ward off illnesses.

If you’re ready to feel your best and have your body firing on all cylinders, then visit the experienced doctors at Corrective Chiropractic. Chiropractic treatment is not only needed when you have severe or chronic back pain. Oftentimes you can benefit from the non-invasive, all natural spinal adjustments that chiropractic medicine is known for. The leading chiropractic therapy centers in Atlanta and Charleston, SC recommend seeking chiropractic treatment if you experience any of the following:

  1. Poor or disturbed sleep. Though sleep disturbances can be caused by a host of issues, when it is prolonged and not easily treated with other medical diagnoses, then it is time to try chiropractic medicine. When your spine is out of alignment, this directly and negatively impacts your nervous system. As the body’s control center, your nervous system controls a variety of necessary body functions, including digestion, mood, and sleep patterns. If you have been silently suffering and find that you either have a hard time falling asleep or are unexpectedly awakened from your sleep, then consult with a reputable chiropractor in your area to schedule a back evaluation.
  2. Recurring headaches that get worse. Debilitating migraines and headaches can make it hard for you to function and adversely impact your quality of life. Taking medication for prolonged periods of time to curb the pain of a headache can make your body more vulnerable to addiction and harmful medication side effects. Chiropractic medicine can be a safe alternative to treat your headaches and get your spine back in alignment to help you feel like yourself again.
  3. Pain when changing positions. Whether you are moving from a seated position to standing or vice versa, wincing or straining to stand upright can be one of the first signs that you need to visit one of our Atlanta or Charleston, SC chiropractic centers. Having poor posture or spending long periods of time in an uncomfortable position can put strain on your spine and muscles, that over time can worsen and require more aggressive intervention. Struggling to bend over or experiencing pain when completing routine tasks such as tying shoes or lifting items is not a “normal” occurrence and should be checked out by a reputable chiropractic treatment specialist.
  4. Use mobile devices for extended periods of time. Known as “text neck”, more and more Americans are experiencing neck pain from looking down at mobile devices. Often paired with having poor posture, text neck, if left untreated can lead to muscle strains making it excruciatingly painful to move the head and neck muscles. If you are like most working professionals or students, you may be spending over 7 hours a day with your neck in an unnatural position while you work on your mobile devices. Having regular chiropractic treatments can help to keep text neck at bay and keep your back in the best shape.
  5. You’ve had trauma to your back. Spinal misalignments occur naturally from the wear and tear of everyday movements. Your back could have experienced trauma and have symptoms and pain that appear and worsen months or years later. Your back health is an important component of your overall health and should be treated as such. Visiting a chiropractor at least every 6 months is a great way to stay on top of and prevent any back pain you may have.

Your back plays an integral role in how your body performs and functions. Why not visit Corrective Chiropractic, for a thorough back health assessment today? The natural aging process can take a toll on your body. For seniors, especially those with reduced activity and limited mobility, getting up and moving can be a challenge, if not painful. With less physical activity, it is easier for the body to become stiff and this can have a negative effect on a senior’s health. Many studies have pointed to the health benefits of remaining active into late adulthood. Whether it is walking for 30 minutes a day or taking part in aerobics or swimming, staying physically fit, as you age can be a surefire way to protect yourself from disease and illness. In fact, regular exercise has been linked to preventing Alzheimer’s and depression among seniors. Staying active is equally good for your brain as it is for your body.

A recent study from the University of lowa has established a link between chiropractic care and our health as we age. Researchers studied the medical records of Medicare patients to examine patterns in patient reports of function, activity levels, and self-reported health outcomes, specifically of patients who had visited a chiropractor, compared to those who had not.

For those patients that had visited a chiropractor, they were less likely to have functional or mobile limitations, difficulties participating in physical activity and had, on average, a lower number of doctor’s visits and hospitalizations. So, in short, visiting a chiropractor can be an insulating factor to protect aging seniors from inactivity and physical deterioration.

Additionally, researchers found that patients with spine conditions, receiving chiropractic adjustments provided a protective effect against 1-year declines in functional and personal health. Previous studies have shown that regular chiropractic adjustments can not only alleviate spinal pain but can also be a great way to manage your overall health.

Whether you are suffering from back pain or want to find a non-invasive and natural way to boost your health, visiting an experienced chiropractor can be the best appointment you’ll make. Keeping up with regular chiropractic visits have far greater benefits than just a healthier spine. New research is pointing to chiropractic adjustments as being an effective way to boost your body’s natural antioxidant levels.

Antioxidants are an important part of your body’s defense against harmful chemicals and protecting your body from free radicals in the environment. Eating a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables is another way to give your body a boost in antioxidants.

To study the role that chiropractic adjustments play in the production of antioxidants, 23 patients, who were suffering from debilitating back pain were given 10 chiropractic adjustments over the course of five weeks. Blood samples, to measure antioxidant levels, were collected before and after the study. By the end of the study, researchers found that two out of the body’s three key antioxidant levels had increased over the five weeks, namely superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Only catalase, an enzyme important in the breakdown of naturally produced hydrogen peroxide in the blood, remained consistent in concentration.

Though the study used a limited number of subjects, the findings are promising in pointing to why adding a chiropractor to your team of healthcare providers is a great way to ensure you are living as healthy as possible. Additional research is needed to determine the exact role chiropractic adjustments play on the production and concentration of antioxidants in the body.

Despite the conclusive evidence from the study, what has been proven is the boost chiropractic adjustments give to both the immune and endocrine systems.

Working smarter, not harder is a mantra we have all come to live by. But, if you’re finding that no matter how many hours you log, you’re still not performing at your best, your posture could be to blame.

If your wondering how to dramatically improve your productivity at workplace, at home or at anything you do, read more on this article to know that improving your body posture is the simple and best way to do it.

How you sit can mean the difference between your body being energized and ready for life’s daily challenges or you feeling sluggish, barely making it through the workday. In fact, recent research has found that slouching can decrease your oxygen intake with each breath by 30%. That means less oxygen going into your body and less energy your body can crank out to keep you running on all cylinders.

Slouching can also indirectly affect your overall health. By putting more strain on your upper body and back, your spine can be pushed out alignment. This can lead to more tension and pain in your upper body and may result in poor sleep, and continued feelings of sluggishness. And, this effect can take its toll on your personal and workplace performance. According to a recent Gallup poll, depressed moods and lower employee health outcomes result in over $300 billion lost in productivity.

Correcting and improving your posture is one of the quickest ways to naturally boost your productivity level, without the use of medication or energy drinks. The key to an improved posture is to identify the root cause of why you may be slouching and what you can do to correct the issue.

At Corrective Chiropractic, we take a proven and award-winning approach to helping you manage your posture and your overall health. Boosting your digestive system doesn’t start with your gut – it starts with your posture. Checking your (proper) posture is one of the easiest ways that you can manage your digestive system. When you go from a standing to a seated position, your body has to quickly compact itself into a smaller space. And, if you slouch or have poor posture, your body has to contort itself that much more – often slowing down important body systems.

If you’re like most working professionals, you may spend a lot of your week sitting. Whether it is during a meeting, in front of your computer, or on the train commuting to work, you likely spend an average of 13 hours per day in a seated position. That means for more than half of every day your intestines are constricted into a smaller than normal space.

Sitting up straight could aid better digestion. In order for your digestive system to function at its best, your stomach and intestinal walls must contract through a series of coordinated movements called peristalsis. It is this process that enables our food to travel throughout the digestive system, delivering nutrients to keep us energized. When you sit up straight, this process is naturally slowed down, but when poor posture is factored in, it nearly grinds to a complete halt.

Imagine trying to navigate your way through a long, dark hallway, as the ceiling is collapsing on top of you. It becomes very hard, very quickly, when the space you’re traveling in is getting smaller and smaller. This is exactly what happens to the food in your digestive system when you sit with poor posture. A decrease in food digestion often leads to a decrease in energy, as your body struggles to process foods and absorb nutrients. This can also lead to the production of gas, painful constipation, and acid reflux.

But, the good news is…

Poor or slouching posture can easily be corrected. The award-winning posture specialists at Corrective Chiropractic are experts in assessing spinal misalignments and using proven, pain-free techniques to help you feel your best. Our non-invasive procedures will help restore your posture to near perfect alignment, so you can live a happier and healthier life.

If you would benefit from having more energy, less stress, and an improved digestive system, then contact the trusted chiropractors at Corrective Chiropractic today to schedule your first appointment.

Make Every Breath Count – Check Your Posture

Sitting up straight could be your most effective way to manage your health. Shocking, but true! Having an improved posture can help to not only alleviate stiffness in your neck and back, but it can also play a vital role in your mood, stress level, even how you breathe. In fact, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation found that patients with poor posture, characterized by slumped shoulders and a tendency to lean forward while sitting, had 30% lower lung capacity.

When you sit naturally, your organs are compressed into a smaller space. And, the organ that becomes the most compressed is your lungs. This is how proper body posture is important as it affects your breathing. Your lungs are designed to be flexible and continually expand and contract. However, with poor posture, the space that is available for them to expand as you inhale is severely restricted. This results in lower lung volume, meaning you draw in less air with each breath. When you slouch, you also decrease the movement of your diaphragm, the thick muscle at the base of your lungs that is responsible for regulating how your pleural cavity contracts and expands.

With a smaller space to operate, your lungs will not be able to take in the maximum amount of air and energize your body cells with the high levels of oxygen it needs. When your body is seemingly starved of oxygen, your body’s natural stress responses are put into overdrive. This often results in shortness of breath, which can lead to mental fog and decreased energy levels. Slouching also puts more muscular strain on your chest, neck, and shoulder muscles, and, if left untreated could lead to chronic pain.

The exact cause of poor posture can vary, but working with an experienced chiropractor can be one of the most effective ways to pinpoint the issue and correct it without the need for medication or surgery.

At Corrective Chiropractic, our focus is on alleviating your stress areas and ensuring your body is in proper alignment to help you feel your best. We will do a thorough and pain-free spinal assessment and work with you to identify those trouble areas that may be contributing to your poor posture. With regular chiropractic adjustments, our clients are able to both improve their posture and boost their entire respiratory system functioning.

American adults are on a path to set a startling record. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), two out of every three Americans have pre-hypertension or hypertension. And, the most common form of treatment, comes courtesy of Big Pharma, in the way of expensive and health-damaging blood pressure medications. However, recent studies are pointing to a unique chiropractic adjustment that can be used to effectively and significantly lower high blood pressure – naturally, without medications.

When performed correctly, the adjustment has been found to be the same as or more effective than taking two blood pressure medications in combination. Doctors, in a 2007 study, have also cited no adverse side effects or long-term health risks associated with this chiropractic treatment to manage high blood pressure.

The success of this chiropractic adjustment is rooted in the realignment of the Atlas vertebra, a doughnut-shaped bone located at the base of the skull and the top of the spine.

Patients that underwent this pain-free alignment, saw a 14 mmHg drop in their systolic blood pressure and an 88 mmHg or greater drop in the diastolic blood pressure. This means, a patient with a blood pressure of 130/90, could see immediate effects from the procedure and have their blood pressure naturally lower to 116/82, back within healthy range.

How is the spine related to hypertension?

The proper spine alignment adjustment is essential in how the body and brain function. When the Atlas vertebra is misaligned this can cause muscular stress in the surrounding area. At the base of the brain, are critical muscular control areas that, if pinched, misaligned vertebrae could disturb blood flow through the arteries, resulting in higher blood pressure. By performing a non-invasive Atlas adjustment, chiropractors are able to relieve the stress at the base of the brain and help the body naturally regulate its blood pressure levels.
